The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
