Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just half a year following instigating derogatory songs aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has signed a agreement joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road finished amicably this past summer.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading insulting songs about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities in April. Currently, the former England player will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull the team he loves away from the bottom places.

Past History Involving Bamford & the Manager

The pair had history prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

Everything seems to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to revive his playing days.

The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Latest Career Struggles

Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
