People have assembled across the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as negotiations proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The attack led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most lethal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are seen as accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister added on that day.

He also promised to "realize all the goals of the war: the release of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will never again create a threat to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official memorials until mid-October - after the completion of the festive season - but gatherings still took place throughout the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was aired on Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was observed across the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' negotiating teams convened in the North African Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of third-party negotiations to discuss the terms of the proposal.

A high-ranking delegate familiar with the negotiations revealed that an night meeting of indirect talks began at evening in Egypt.

The source explained the day's discussions concluded without concrete outcomes, due to disagreements over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not resume fighting after the opening period of the deal.

He commented that the talks are "tough and have still not deliver any significant progress," but noted that facilitators are making efforts to close the disparities between the two sides.

Key Issues in Discussions

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the hostages still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies deliveries
  • Future governance of the region

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother survived the assault on the gathering, where hundreds were lost their lives and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - explained: "Nowhere feels like home anymore and until every captive return no one will have peace of mind."

"When we see all home once more, we can breathe anew. Then we can start to rebuild," she added.

In front of the leader's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their backing for the relatives of the captives. Israel says forty-eight stay in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Activist Atalia Regev explained: "We must do any agreement needed for the hostages to return. But we sincerely need promises that we will be safe."

Research now regularly indicate that approximately seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the hostilities to end in as payment for the freedom of the captives.

Palestinian Situation

At the area of the music event, mourners assembled to pay their respects.

From that location, the noise of aerial bombardments and shelling could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the heavy Israeli attacks persisted.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were documented in the morning of Tuesday in the western district, sector and locality districts and in the eastern area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the evening falls, the dread arrives with it," displaced Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack previously, described.

"My family are terrified of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, clinging, notably my smallest child who rests his face on me the entire evening."

"Every second we look at the news to see developments. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the war will resume to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The healthcare center in Gaza City said it had accepted the bodies of several people by the midday, including a trio killed in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the south region of Khan Younis reported two more dead people had been brought there. A person was died by Israeli forces while attempting to get help to the south, medical staff said.

Gaza's health ministry reported twenty-five of the {territ
