A teenager from the Land Down Under has faced legal proceedings after reportedly defacing a large art piece of a mythical creature by applying googly eyes to it.
The 19-year-old, 19 years old, appeared remotely at the local court in South Australia on that day, facing with a single charge of property damage.
Officials commented at the time of the recent event, the municipal authorities said that CCTV footage showed a individual putting fake eyes on the sculpture, which residents have nicknamed the “Blue Blob”.
Ms Vanderhorst made no plea and told the judge she was unwell, as reported by media sources, with the judge advising her to secure a lawyer before her upcoming hearing in December.
A day after the reported event, the city leader said that repairs to the much-loved public artwork would be costly as the adhesive eyes could not be detached without damaging the sculpture.
“This wilful damage to a valued community art is inappropriate and disrespectful,” Mayor Lynette Martin remarked in September. “It is not innocent amusement, it is pricey - it is also frustrating to those people of our community who have embraced the Blue Blob.”
She added the council would seek the “substantial” repair costs from those responsible for the damage.
When the artwork was initially suggested, it received varied responses from the area residents due to its price tag and design.
Priced at 136,000 Australian dollars (eighty-nine thousand US dollars; £68,000), the artwork represents a legendary giant animal, with the creators inspired by an prehistoric anteater-like marsupial found in nearby caverns that was “huge, slow-moving, and intriguing”.
